Haryana Police summons Yogendra Yadav in connection with the rape case at Tikri border

Activist Yogendra Yadav, currently linked with farmers’ protest have been summoned by the Haryana Police in connection with a rape case at Tikri border protest site.

After the complain of victim’s father, Haryana police filed an FIR against the accused at Bahadurgarh Police Station. The Haryana police has registered an FIR against 2 AAP leader, 2 Kisan Social Leader and 2 others in connection with the gang rape of 26 year old woman who was participating in the farm agitation at Tikri border protest site. The woman died at a private hospital on April 30, after developing COVID like symptoms.

Police have identified the 2 accused of this alleged gang rape case as Anil Malik and Anup Singh. Both the accused have connections with AAP. According to Haryana police, the 26 year old victim hails from Bengal and joined the protest in April after getting influenced by 2 women, whom she had met during a public meeting in Bengal. While travelling from West Bengal to Delhi by train, one of the accused tried to sexually assault her. And after reaching the protest site, both the accused, Anil Mailk and Anup Singh allegedly raped her in a tent assigned for Kisan Social Army.

At a press conference on Monday evening, victim’s father said that he came to know about the rape incident after he reached Jhajjar on April 29 and met her daughter at the COVID hospital. As per the father of victim, the woman had also lodged a complaint with a local committee at the protest site and the leaders of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). But the SKM didn’t take any legal action, they just asked the accused to leave the protesting site.

During a press conference on Monday, Yogendra Yadav dismissed the reports that SKM leaders were aware about the alleged gangrape incident at the protesting site.

We were not aware of the assault. However, since there are reports that two or three leader were aware about it, we’re probing the matter.” Said Yogendra Yadav.

On May 9, the Haryana Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter. “As per her father, she was raped. The victim was hospitalised for Covid and succumbed to it on April 30. A case has been registered into the matter and an SIT has been formed,” Vijay Kumar, city police station in-charge told news agency ANI.
